I wish I could say that I had the strength to make through my weight loss journey all on my own, but that wouldn't be true. The truth is that I had a lot of help along the way. I call hese helpers "The Reinforcements" because that's exactly what they did for me. The Reinformcements are people and tools that gave me the added strength or support to achieve my weight loss goals. I know that I couldn't have done it without them.
When I started my weight loss journey, I wasn’t very confident in myself. The extra pounds I was carrying around were weighing on my body and my mind. Deep down, I felt unworthy and my negative thoughts plagued my mind and reflected in my words, actions, and habits.
One day I decided to turn on the TV while I was getting ready for work. I flipped through the channels until I came across a program called “Enjoying Everyday Life”. The speaker talked about how important it was that we enjoy life and not just exist. As I listened, I realized that I had been living in survival mode for a while. To me, surviving was an accomplishment, but was that really living? The speaker inspired me to want more for my life. The next morning, I watched the program again and after a few more days I was hooked. It wasn’t long before I noticed a change in how I thought and how I felt. The program had given me just push I needed and by listening to it daily, I was able to get constant, positive reinforcement.
When I popped in my workout DVD for the first time, it advertised an online community where you can ask questions and get encouragement and support. Most importantly, you could sign up for a workout parter in the online gym. Of course it wasn't a real gym, but more of a meeting spot for those that were working out that day. I immediately scheduled my first workout in the online gym and before I knew it, others were tagging me as their workout buddies. That was so helpful to me because now I had someone I was accountable to. I didn't know them, but they would be able to tell if I didn't sign in for my workout. I found that it was like scheduling an appointment, I felt like I couldn't miss it. Looking back, I know this was a crucial element to my success.
