A trigger event is an event or life situation that happens to us and leads to an unhealthy response. In terms of our health, that generally means that something that we perceive as negative happens and we respond by deviating from our eating or exercise plan.
Let me give you some practical examples that I think you'll be able to relate to:
In our heart of hearts, we know that there is no thing and no person that can "make" us do anything. The greatest gift God gave us is the ability to choose and we choose our thoughts and actions just like we choose what we wear each day. What we are really saying is that the trigger event has caused a negative emotion in us and in order to comfort ourselves, we need (you fill in the blank). For some of us, that blank could be filled with a heaping bowl of ice cream. For others, it's a fresh batch of brownies or chocolate chip cookies. Then there are a few of us that have comfort meals like Italian, burgers and fries, fried chicken, or pizza. Or we may decide that because of what we are going through we "deserve" to skip our workout. Your vice is not important. What is important is identifying your triggers.
